LG Is Reportedly Making Doorbells, Locks and Cameras for Apple’s New Smart Home
Sarah Miller

Apple appears to be getting much more serious about the smart home. The company is reportedly working with LG Electronics on a new range of smart-home accessories, including a video doorbell, smart lock, thermostat, temperature sensor, and security cameras. The move could signal one of Apple's biggest expansions into the connected-home market yet.
Apple’s Smart Home Plans Are Getting Bigger
Apple has long supported smart-home accessories through HomeKit and the Matter standard, but the company has never offered a broad lineup of its own home-security hardware. That could soon change.
Reports suggest Apple is helping develop a collection of LG-branded devices designed to work closely with Apple's upcoming smart-home platform. LG would reportedly manufacture and support the products, while Apple would provide technology and integration into its ecosystem.
The New Devices Could Include
Regulatory filings reportedly reveal several LG smart-home products that may be connected to Apple's plans.
The reported lineup includes:
LG Video Doorbell Wired
LG Smart Deadbolt Lock
LG Smart Thermostat
LG Temperature Sensor
LG Indoor Camera
LG Outdoor Camera
LG Floodlight Camera
The filings reportedly don't publicly identify Apple as a partner, but the products are believed to have been developed with Apple's broader smart-home strategy in mind.
A Smart Lock Could Be One of the Most Interesting Products
The reported LG Smart Deadbolt Lock could be particularly interesting for Apple users. The device is expected to support Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology. Apple already uses UWB in products such as the iPhone and Apple Watch for precise location and proximity features.
That could eventually allow Apple's ecosystem to determine when an authorized user is approaching the front door and potentially enable convenient unlocking features. Exactly how Apple's software will use the technology remains unclear.
Cameras Could Become a Major Part of Apple’s Home Strategy
Apple is also reportedly preparing several types of security cameras. The lineup could include indoor, outdoor, and floodlight cameras, giving users options for monitoring different parts of their homes.
This would put Apple in much more direct competition with established smart-home security brands such as Ring, Nest, and Arlo. For Apple users, the biggest advantage could be tighter integration with the iPhone, Apple Watch, Siri, and Apple's broader privacy-focused ecosystem.
Matter and Thread Support Could Make Them More Flexible
Another important detail is connectivity. The reported devices are expected to support technologies including Matter and Thread, along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Matter is designed to make smart-home accessories work across different ecosystems, while Thread provides a low-power mesh networking technology for connected-home devices. That combination could make the LG products more flexible while still allowing Apple to provide deeper integration.
How the Apple Home Hub Fits In
The reported LG products appear to be designed to complement Apple's upcoming smart home hub. Apple has been rumored to be developing a home hub with a display that could act as a central control point for smart-home devices.
Users could potentially control lights, cameras, locks, thermostats, and other accessories from one location while using Siri for voice commands. The hub could also become an important part of Apple's growing AI strategy.
Apple Wants Siri to Become More Useful at Home
The smart-home push could give Siri a much bigger role. Instead of simply asking Siri to turn on a light or set a timer, Apple's future home platform could allow more complex interactions between devices.
For example, users could potentially ask Siri to check a camera, adjust the thermostat, lock the front door, or provide information about activity around the home. That would make Siri more useful as a true home assistant.
Why Apple Is Working With LG
Apple already has a long-standing relationship with LG. LG has supplied Apple with various components and has worked with the company on display-related products. Partnering with LG for smart-home hardware would allow Apple to expand into a new product category without having to build an entirely new manufacturing operation. It also gives Apple access to LG's experience in home appliances and connected-home technology.
Apple vs. Amazon and Google
Apple's move could significantly increase competition in the smart-home market. Amazon already has Ring doorbells and cameras, while Google offers Nest cameras, thermostats, and other connected-home products.
Apple has traditionally relied on third-party manufacturers, but a broader collection of Apple-focused accessories could give consumers another complete ecosystem to choose from. The key difference could be Apple's emphasis on privacy, ecosystem integration, and seamless connectivity between devices.
When Could These Products Arrive?
The exact launch date and pricing remain unclear. Reports indicate that Apple's broader smart-home hardware could arrive before the LG accessories, with the new LG products potentially launching several months later. Apple has not officially announced the reported lineup, so specifications, pricing, availability, and Apple's exact role in the products could still change.
What This Means for Apple Users
If these reports are accurate, Apple's smart-home strategy could be much bigger than simply releasing a new HomePod or smart display. A complete ecosystem featuring cameras, doorbells, locks, thermostats, sensors, and a central home hub would give Apple a much stronger position in the connected-home market. And with Siri and Apple Intelligence becoming increasingly important, the home could become one of Apple's next major areas for AI-powered experiences.
